Facilities contact
Ray Whitfield, Facilities. He unlocked the mechanical rooms and the PTAC closets.
System
Lined supply & return trunk, PTAC units on exterior walls. Most runs are internally lined — cut the insulation before the metal.
Building age
Original wing predates 1980. Treat unknown joint sealant as asbestos until proven otherwise.
The job, in order
Find each register, remove it correctly for its condition, keep your screws.
Cut access: strip the liner first on lined duct, then one clean 8" hole. Fewer holes for full coverage = efficiency bonus.
Set airflow: whip upstream, vacuum downstream toward the air handler.
Whip the trunk to bare metal, debris pulled into negative air.
Cap and label every access hole, shoot before/after photos. NADCA.
Return side first. Always.
⚠ Stop-work rule: If you find suspect white/grey putty at a duct joint on the old wing, do not disturb it. Photo it with Q, flag it, and move on. Cutting suspected asbestos fails the job instantly.
